The past few weeks have been momentous. For the first time in our history we
have an African American head of a national political ticket and a woman, once again, chosen as a Vice Presidential candidate. The vetting process not only provides some insight into the contenders decision-making process, it provides some lessons in the attraction game as well. Here are some quick observations that you can put to good use:
1. Let The Other Guy Buy Her Drinks
After two years of toil and sweat, 212 million dollars invested, and about “18 million cracks” on the gender glass ceiling it’s the Republicans who have a woman on their electoral ticket not the democrats. In essences, Hillary and the Democrats paved the way for a percentage of women (Clinton Feminist) who may vote for McCain in the name of feminism. If only 5% of those 18M voters swing to the right you are looking at 900K votes. If I recall Bush won (and I use the term won loosely) in Florida by 537 and with all of the hoopla with Florida it’s overlooked that Bush won New Mexico by a mere 366 votes. 5% for McCain equals checkmate.
Lesson: If you find yourself competing for the attention of a specific girl-don’t be so quick to fight fire with fire. If he’s buying her drinks, flowers and the likes this doesn’t mean that you’re chances are out the window. Much like Hillary with women, let him pave the way for you and be alert for an opening.
2. Don’t let Ego Get In The Way
The Obama/Hillary ticket would have been a formidable partnership perhaps insurmountable by the Republican Party. If winning was the primary concern this should have been the democratic ticket. Some believe that it was ego/hubris that prompted Obama to bypass Hillary; that perhaps it was impossible to work together under the same roof. It’s hard to buy into the “bridging the party and nation” argument and then not be able to negotiate a “truce” with the one person who may have sealed the presidential election for you.
Lesson: Relationships, like politics, is a contact sport. Your feelings will be hurt, you will get dumped and yes, at some point she may even cheat on you. Put your egos to the side (I agree easier said then done) and move forward with the task at hand. GET THE GIRL...
3. Level The Playing Field
Whether she is qualified for the vice-presidential position is a discussion that is out of the scope of this blog and beyond my pay rate. One thing is for sure; by picking Governor Palin as his running mate it allows people to vote for history without voting for obama.
Lesson: Often in the heat of competition we are so focused on the negative that we oversee all the great qualities we bring to the table. Ask yourself—What qualities do I have that can level the playing field just a bit? Any small change can have a profound effect (see butterfly effect posting)
4. Action vs. Reaction
The Palin selection, although positive in some aspects, potentially can backfire on Mc Cain. In various Republican circles the selection was seen as a way to just attract the female vote (or the bulk of Hillary’s voters). According to reports Mc Cain’s decision was almost solidified the moment Hillary wasn’t on the Democrat ticket. This is a classic case of reacting to what others do vs. acting on what you know to be right.
Lesson: Forget what the other guy is doing to win the girls attention. Focus everyday on creating the best YOU possible. By focusing on improving your “game” you’re forced to focus on acting vs. reacting on what the competition may or may not doing.
5. Don’t Promise Everything
All three major political parties (Republicans, Democrat and Independents—yes remember them) promise the world with lofty plans and pie charts to back up how they are going to deliver said promises. Last I checked my car still runs on gas…
Lesson: Women have a built in B.S. radar and they can smell your “promise” of love and happiness a mile away. If you have to promise anything-focus on those things you know you can deliver on. A good lawyer will never ask a question they don’t know the answer too…in relationships never promise that which you can’t furnish.
6. Energize The Base
If anything the selection of Palin has stimulated the Republicans base of conservative voters with her strong pro-life position and hunting skills (no joke-rumor has it she can give the crips and bloods a run for the money with a pistol)
Lesson: Dating and the courting process should be fun. Get your girl excited about dating you. Get creative. Adrenaline is an amazing thing (check out post on leveraging adrenaline).
7. Don’t Club The Baby Seal
It’s only a matter of time before Republicans will start claiming that Democrats are launching sexist attacks against Palin. O, check that its already started. Obama & Biden will have to walk a very thin line over the next couple of months; anything that is even remotely interpreted as condescending will launch a serious of “swift boat” style attack ads.
Lesson: Never, ever, ever talk bad about the ex or the competition. Some part of her likes (loved) her ex and something for sure as her interested in the competition. Any criticism on them is a criticism on her. Instead, when she mentions him in some negative light suggest that he seems like a “nice guy” but perhaps a little “insecure”. A repeated onslaught of these two phrases will have him in the friend zone in short order.
8. Do Your Homework
Regardless of why Palin and Biden where selected; rest assured that there was a team of people turning every stone to make sure that respective contenders where in line with the message that each party want to echo to the general public.
Lesson: In a world of social networks sites where women posted all of there interest, likes and dislikes you have no reason to fumble a first date. Do your homework before asking her out on a date.
Survival Tip: Don’t sit on the sidelines this coming election. Read, learn, discuss and partake in history. Some woman wait for it…wait for it…are attracted to a man who can discuss more then the sport scores. Intelligence has an air, a swagger unmatched by any wallet or pick up line. I promise, that regardless of how you vote; becoming familiarize with our electoral process will make you a more balanced, attractive person.
