AIG announced today that part of the bail out money provided by the US
government was used to distribute performance bonuses as well as bail out, get this, some of the banks that had already received bail out money! Talk about the private sector gone wild. But here’s the thing: No one, President Obama, investors or US citizens should be surprised. AIG went unregulated for years, undisputed and challenged in a world of corporate greed. The behavior of these corporate titans parallels those of men in relationships with gold diggers or women who stay in abusive relationships. Change is hard-but the signs of there disruptively behaviors are around us, and, if identified, we should be not surprised if continuously repeated.
We can debate the causes of such reckless and self-defacing behavior; some would say it’s about power, others would say it’s about a sense of entitlement or laziness, whatever the cause, the destructive EFFECTS are undeniable.
The folks over at AIG where mismanaging money for years. Why should it surprise us that they mismanaged the bail out money?
Lesson: If you suspect your girl is a gold digger, you’re probably right. If you suspect that your man is cheating you’re probably right as well. That’s not to say that we are not all capable of change; indeed we have innate dispositions based on genetics but we build the totality of our personality with our choices and experiences. If she’s chosen to live off your bi-weekly check and is not contributing, at some level, to the relationship, and she has been habitually acting out this way for years, what makes you think she will change overnight?
Her actions, choices and experience are such that it’s become part of her fuller personality. Another observation, how often have we heard about women who have bee repeatedly beaten and returned to their “lovers” only, in some cases, to face the worst of consequences?
Phrased another way: Would you be surprised or shocked if Chris Brown was in the news 2 years from now because he abused Rihanna again? Neither would I…
